Shirin YadegarWhen you’ve been married for 12 years with four kids, Valentine’s Day becomes a day you celebrate as a family rather than a couple. I find it overpriced and “cheesy” to dine out on Valentine’s Day so spending it with the kids doing crafts and baking is a lot more fun.

A few days before the holiday, my girls and I make beautiful cards for all of the people we love. We use red, pink and white construction paper, crayons and scissors to cut out hearts. NO mess and super fun.

On Feb. 14, we decorate the house with cards and flowers (that daddy brings home for all of us). My girls set the table with pink and red disposable tableware. The menu always consists of “red” pasta sauce, a tomato and mozzarella salad and beets. We try to use all of the red and pink foods we like for Valentine’s Day.

Of course desert is always the most fun. We prepare sugar cookies that we decorate with pink and red frosting and sprinkles. Go to http://www.woolicious.com for great Valentine’s Day recipes.

Once we have put the kids to bed, we try to enjoy our own intimate alone time. I won’t bore you with the details.

I hope you have a wonderful Valentine’s Day whether you spend it with your kids, your husband or your girlfriends. All you need is love.
